Method, and what the index does not say
What is counted. Every single card TCGIndex tracks for a game, at its Near Mint market price on the main marketplace, one copy each. Sealed products, graded copies and foreign-language cards are not in the index. The game value is the sum; the index is that sum divided by its value on July 1, 2026, times 100.
New sets inflate the level, not the changes. When a set releases, its cards enter the basket and the market value jumps. That is real market size, not price appreciation. The 30-day and 90-day figures compare the same cards over time and are the ones to quote for price moves. Cards that lose their price feed drop out, which flatters the level slightly over long windows; this is the survivorship bias every market-value index carries, and it is why we publish both views.
Prices.Marketplace market prices refreshed daily, with PriceCharting sold data for graded and verified sales on the card pages. Supplier glitches are filtered: a one-day move of more than 10% in a game's aggregate is checked against our own bottom-up sum before it is written.

Market index FAQ
- What does the TCG Market Index measure?
- For each game, the sum of the market value of every single card TCGIndex tracks (about 250,000 cards across 14 games), at Near Mint market price, recorded once a day. The index is that sum rebased to 100 on July 1, 2026. The total is the 14 games added together.
- Is the index up because prices rose or because new sets were added?
- Both, and the page says which. The rebased index tracks the whole tracked market, so a big release adds value the day its cards start trading. The 30-day and 90-day columns in the table compare the same basket over time and are the right numbers for "are prices rising". Treat the index as a market-size series and the changes as price series.
- Can I use the chart or the numbers in an article?
- Yes. The chart, the CSV and every figure on this page are free to reuse under CC BY 4.0: credit TCGIndex and link to this page. For a custom cut (one game, one set, a different window) write to [email protected] and you will get it within a day.
- How often is it updated?
- Every day, from the previous day's close. Card prices come from marketplace market prices; graded prices and sold data come from PriceCharting. The method and its limits are described at the bottom of this page.
