The State of Digimon Card Investing in 2026
The Digimon Card Game has quietly built a real secondary market, but it does not behave like its Bandai and anime peers. Across 88 mature sets, value sits in recent alternate-art cards rather than old vintage, and breadth is thin, fewer than half its sets are rising. Here is what the Digimon market is actually doing in 2026. Original data from TCGIndex, as of 4 August 2026.
1. A soft, selective market
Of the 88 Digimon sets old enough to judge, 41 rose over the last 90 days. That is about 47%. The average mature set gained just over +2%. That is a weak, uneven market, well below the near-total breadth of Pok茅mon, One Piece or Lorcana. In Digimon, more than half of sets are flat or falling right now, so which cards you hold decides everything.
2. The value is recent, but the recent sets are cooling
Split every mature set by era and Digimon breaks the usual pattern: the newest cohort holds the most value, not the oldest, and it is also the weakest.
| Era | Sets | Avg 90-day change | Share rising | Tracked value |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Early era (2020 to 2021) | 17 | +2.9% | 10 of 17 | $11,219 |
| 2022 to 2023 | 32 | +8.2% | 15 of 32 | $22,806 |
| 2024 to 2026 | 39 | -2.6% | 16 of 39 | $50,096 |
The 2024 to 2026 cohort holds ~$50,100, more than the two earlier eras combined, because Digimon's most valuable cards are current alternate-art secret rares, not aged vintage. But that cohort is down about 3% on average right now, while the mid-era (2022 to 2023) is the only clearly positive group at +8.2%. The value and the momentum are in different places, which is exactly why the average card is going nowhere.
3. The standout movers
The handful of strong sets are led by the manga line and alt-art-heavy releases:
- Digimon LIBERATOR (2024): +31.9%. the manga-tie-in line, ~$4,100, the clear standout and a nostalgia play.
- Across Time (2023): +15.8%. a mid-era set with strong alt-art chase cards, ~$2,500.
- Beginning Observer (2024): +14.8%. a recent set led by its secret rares, ~$2,900.
- Cyber Eden (2025): +14.6%. a newer set climbing on its alt-arts, ~$1,900.
- World Convergence (2025): +13.3%. a 2025 set holding up, ~$3,100.
Digimon LIBERATOR leading by a wide margin is the tell: manga tie-ins and nostalgia, expressed through alternate-art cards, are what move this market, not raw set age, and only a minority of sets are moving at all.
4. What it means if you are putting money in
- Chase the art, not the age. Value here is in alternate-art secret rares and manga tie-ins, which can sit in recent sets. Old does not mean valuable in Digimon.
- Breadth is thin, so pick carefully. With fewer than half of sets rising, a broad buy loses. The winners are concentrated in specific chase cards.
- Mind the reprints. Bandai reprints base staples, so durable value lives in the scarce alt-art pieces, which is exactly what set-level tracking is built to surface.
